From truth to action
Searchlight Investigative Journalism Foundation is a tax-exempt public charity that aims to shine a light on a handful of America’s root problems, providing decision-makers and the public the tools to make things better, together.
Our ultimate goal is to produce powerful movements that bring lasting change.
We are independent, politically non- partisan, and non-profit.

What we do
Through decades of reporting, we’ve revealed fraud and corruption in food, finance and healthcare.
But with a few notable exceptions, investigative reporting rarely fixes what it finds. Sure, we testified about food fraud in the House, spoke at a Senate event on whistleblowing, appeared on 60 Minutes, did a TED talk . . . but without a systematic strategy for creating change, we didn’t really move the needle.
Now we’re going to act on the wrongs we discover. The result is Searchlight: a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation to investigate, communicate and alleviate major social harms.

Why we exist
Problems keep growing, and it’s getting harder to find trustworthy information about them, let alone ways to address them.
Government oversight is weak, corporate power is pervasive, and public faith in institutions is at rock bottom.
People need reliable data on problems, and a viable game plan for tackling them.
That’s where Searchlight comes in.
What’s happening
We are active on LinkedIn, X, and Bluesky. Come read our latest news.
1/ 37m Americans CKD, only 10% know they have a problem. Mortality from kidney failure is higher than w/ most kinds of cancer. The federal government invests relatively little in preventing or addressing kidney disease, and shockingly lots in dialysis. https://t.co/HhB28F64JX

2/ People die daily waiting for a kidney transplant. There has been virtually no major tech evolution in dialysis in decades.
